5.0 out of 5 stars 1st time neophyte buyer of a Home Theater System, May 24, 2009
By
This review is from: Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1-Channel Theater System (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this unit to complement a Samsung LN52a550 HDTV. Didn't feel there was enough sound from the unit to complement the samsungs outstanding video. Shopped for reasonably priced HTIB units and decided (despite cautions that most didn't perform) to give this unit a try. In my wildest expectations I never thought this unit would perform up to its marketing description. Placed in a den of that is approx. 15 x 25 and playing a Dolby DVD, it placed me in a cinema that provides sound effects that truly astounded. I'll qualify this by saying that I'm a audio neophyte but for this sound at this amount of money I am truly impressed.

Be aware that this Sony unit is being used with a Samsung HDTV and consequently the transition between DVD usage & HDTV usage (must change input source) is a bit bothersome. I found that in order to obtain full surround sound from the unit when receiving audio only from you TV (not from the DVD) you must purchase a digital optical cable... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars (UPDATE: If you own a wii. S-AIR will interfere with your wii remote.) - Finally found the One., July 13, 2009

(UPDATE:
I just found out that the S-AIR technology interferes with the wii remote. The cursor on the screen will jump all over the place and the sound on the wii remote will get cut out. It very noticeable playing Super Mario Galaxy when selecting your file on the file menu. So if you own a wii you will be very disappointed. Turning off the home theater or taking out the S-AIR cart on the back of the receiver solves the problem. Way to go Sony. I think you did this on purpose. NEW RATING: 4 STARS. Original rating was 5 stars.)

This Home theater system is great. The wireless system is nearly perfect, so far only a couple of weird click noises, but I have been using this 24/7 and it has worked beautifully. The design is really elegant for the price. Before getting this system I tried a Panasonic SC-PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System, the Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX587WC 5.1 Channel Theater System and the Sony HSS360 component system. And this system beats all of them by... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, July 12, 2009

This review is from: Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1-Channel Theater System (Black) (Electronics)
Got this system a couple days ago, and it just blows me away. The sound is amazing, the sub really kicks out deep bass, its looks great and the picture is crystal clear also. The rear wireless has been flawless, microwave, cordles phone does not interfere with it at all. I have this system in a medium room and sounds wonderful. Has a 5 dvd/cd changer, am/fm tuner, ipod cradle included, input in front for headphones and mp3 player, hdmi, component, composite video out and coaxil and optical input also. The romote is not universal but works only for Sony Bravia lcd's only. For the price, i recommend this unit to everyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars RCA RTD3133H could be better., July 23, 2011

I don't write reviews, but i would have liked to hear an opinion or 2 about this unit before purchasing it.
first, if you can afford a better unit, go for it.
this was purchased simply for the dolby 5.1 & it was the right price.
Sound quality : clear, but very underpowered for my taste.
ease of use : i found it simple to operate, but does have alot of useless features.
main gripe : when the unit powers down, or goes to standby...all the audio levels reset to 50%
running this unit at 50% is pointless, so all the individual channels need to be turned to 100% every time the unit powers up. with all the useless features, i cant believe it doesnt have the option to save the audio levels.

bottom line, if you are an audiphile, or enjoy shaking the walls with rich bass. this one is not for you.
if you just want something inexpensive to suppliment your HDTV, this might be the one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Keep searching for a better home theatre., November 1, 2011
This review is from: RCA RTD3133H DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
The price is ok for this home theatre. Im not impressed with the surround speakers...the speakers out of my samsung tv over powers them..the subwoofer i would give it a 2 star rating out of 5 stars. the controller feels cheap and flimsy...save your money and spend 20 bucks more and get a better name brand like samsung or sony. if you enjoy bass and good sound...stay away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Missing Feature!, April 26, 2006

This review is from: Samsung HT-Q45 XM Ready Five-Disc DVD Changer Home Theater System (5.1 Channel) (Electronics)
I thought I had researched this unit pretty well before purchasing. The feature set is amazing for the price. In fact, for those of you like me that are using an audio system and/or DVD player more than just a couple of years old, check out what you may have been missing for cool features like: AV Sync (ability to perfectly synchronize audio/video); reading/playing of music from your USB connected MP3 player; rotation of images when viewing photos; quick display of time remaining in movie; easy access to hidden bonus material; dynamic range compression for enhanced late night listening when trying not to disturb others; and more. But here is the surprising, in fact down right incredible missing feature: No tone controls of any kind; no treble; no bass; no eq other than presets which only work in stereo mode and are just a guessing game since there is no indication anywhere, not even in the manual, as to what frequency adjustment curve is being applied. For TV or DVD surround sound... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good unit for the price., January 22, 2007

The Badger (Fort Worth, TX, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung HT-Q45 XM Ready Five-Disc DVD Changer Home Theater System (5.1 Channel) (Electronics)
I purchased this unit yesterday to accompany my 46" Samsung DLP TV. The unit looks slick, is easy to connect, and the speakers are compact. Another reviewer mentioned lack of the ability to control treble/bass. I thought that was odd as well, and kept it in mind as I perused all other home theater options at the store. Lo and behold, I found that almost none had such ability. Further control of the sound is unlikely unless you purchase higher-quality components.

Having said that, I think the HT-Q45 sounds good. You can use the "effect" button to switch among different "sounds," i.e. "stereo," "movie," etc. And they seem appropriate for each selection.

Bottom line - this is a sub-$300 home theater system in a box that met or exceeded my expectations in all areas. I'm happy with the purchase. Of course, if you have a Samsung TV like me, I think it behooves you to take an even closer look so you can control your TV with the same remote.

2.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed, December 8, 2006

The user above had a great review. I bought this system after researching home theaters for quite some time. I decided on this one because of the price ([...] rebate at the store I purchased this). The receiver does not have an S-Video input, which was a little disappointing since I don't have a HDTV. As the other user noted, this system does not have the ability to adjust the tones, which is shocking. I also found this system very buggy. In fact, I'm returning mine for a new one today. After only 2 weeks of having this, when powering up the system there is a machine grinding noise that only goes away after powering down the system and restarting it. Also, I've noticed a high pitch ring from certain dvds in the receiver (not through the speakers). The remote seems buggy also. You have the option to control the receiver or TV with the remote. At times, it just won't work (no lights display when pressing buttons). You need to reselect either TV or RECEIVER to get it working... Read more
